Why phone numbers can't be looked up like emails
Services such as Have I Been Pwned index email addresses. Phone numbers appear in leaked datasets constantly, but they aren't publicly searchable — partly because such a lookup could itself be abused to profile people. So a "clean" result from an email checker tells you nothing about whether your number is circulating.
Where data brokers get your number
Three main pipelines: data breaches (email and phone are almost always exposed together), public directories and people-search sites, and caller-ID apps like Truecaller that harvest numbers from other people's address books — which is how your number can be listed without you ever signing up.
What you can do about it
